Spoilage of milk and its products is regular in hot climate countries. Investigations were performed concerning additives use against the harmful microorganisms including Bacillus and Clostridium. The former spoils liquid milk, whereas the latter spoils cheese during storage. Both are pathogens and spore – formers distributed in heat treated milk products. Propionicin T1 was discovered among propionibacterial bacteriocins. It has a bactericidal effect against Bacillus and Clostridium. pctA gene of Propionibacterium thoenii 419 expressing propionicin T1 was isolated using specific PCR technique and cloned via pLEB590 (cloning vector) and pINT125 (integration vector) to some lactic acid bacterial strains. Such modified strains could be used as dual-purpose dairy cultures that produce propionicin T1 to inhibit spore-formers beside its basic rule to produce healthy dairy products with extended shelf-life. paperback, Label: LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, Produktgruppe: Book, Publiziert: 2012-07-17, Studio: LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing

Qatar: Small State, Big PoliticsQatar: Small State, Big Politics
The Persian Gulf state of Qatar has fewer than 2 million inhabitants, virtually no potable water, and has been an independent nation only since 1971. Yet its enormous oil and gas wealth has permitted the ruling al Thani family to exert a disproportionately large influence on regional and even international politics. Qatar is, as Mehran Kamrava explains in this knowledgeable and incisive account of the emirate, a "tiny giant": although severely lacking in most measures of state power, it is highly influential in diplomatic, cultural, and economic spheres. Kamrava presents Qatar as an experimental country, building a new society while exerting what he calls "subtle power." It is both the headquarters of the global media network Al Jazeera and the site of the U.S. Central Command's Forward Headquarters and the Combined Air Operations Center. Qatar has been a major player during the European financial crisis, it has become a showplace for renowned architects, several U.S. universities have established campuses there, and it will host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Qatar's effective use of its subtle power, Kamrava argues, challenges how we understand the role of small states in the global system. Given the Gulf state's outsized influence on regional and international affairs, this book is a critical and timely account of contemporary Qatari politics and society.

Qatar: A Modern HistoryQatar: A Modern History
What role does Qatar play in the Middle East and how does it differ from the other Gulf states? How has the Al-Thani tribe shaped the history of modern Qatar? And how is a traditional tribal society adapting to its status as a burgeoning economic superpower? Qatar plays a crucial part in the Middle East today. With the second greatest natural gas resources in the region, Qatar's economic clout is considerable. At the same time the Qatar story is replete with paradoxes: the state hosts the Al-Jazeera media network, an influential expression of Arab nationalism and anti-Americanism, while also hosting the principal US naval base in the region. Its leaders, like Saudi Arabia's, adhere to the Wahhabi form of Sunni Islam, yet Qatar eyes its Saudi neighbours with suspicion. It is a fervent champion of the Palestinian cause, yet welcomes the Israeli Foreign Minister to present the Jewish state's case in its capital, Doha. With this groundbreaking modern history, Allen Fromherz presents a full portrait which analyses these paradoxes and Qatar's growing regional influence within a broader historical context. Drawing on original sources in Arabic, English and French, as well as his own fieldwork in the Middle East, Fromherz offers a multi-faceted picture of the political, cultural, religious, social and economic make-up of modern Qatar, its significance within the GCC states and the wider region.
